In an exclusive interview with bestanonymouscasinos.com, former boxing world champion Carl Froch revealed his predictions for some of the Matchroom vs Queensberry 5 vs 5 fights, which take place in Riyadh on Saturday night…
Deontay Wilder (Matchroom) vs Zhilei Zhang (Queensberry) – Heavyweight
Carl Froch: “This is a 50-50 fight. What’s Wilder got left in terms of desire and hunger? And what’s Zhang got left in terms of age, and how many miles has he got left in the tank? He’s a big lump, he fades after six rounds. If Wilder’s still in there after six, you’d have to say Wilder can probably land a few bombs and nick a points decision or maybe even get a stoppage. Either of these guys can get knocked out, or dropped, or hurt. Who would you pick for that? I’d pick Deontay Wilder just because I think he’s got more in the tank.”
Prediction – Wilder win
Filip Hrgovic (Matchroom) vs Daniel Dubois (Queensberry) – Heavyweight
Carl Froch: “Great fight. Hrgovic hasn’t beaten anybody really – there’s no name that stands out. He looks good but he struggled against Zhang. He got hurt, it was close but he got the decision. Daniel Dubois is younger, he put Usyk down – yes, it was a low blow but it wasn’t directly in the gonads. He lost and people say he quit, but he tried, he was gassed a little bit, but he learnt. He performed really well against Jarrell Miller. Instead of running and keeping away, trying to stay safe behind his jab and nick a points decision – he actually met fire with fire. He showed a lot of gumption and tenacity in that fight. He had a point to prove. If he beats Hrgovic, which I think he probably does, I mean it’s a close fight, it’s a 55-45 swing – then I think potentially he’s got a really prosperous future. He could be the guy that’s the future of the heavyweight division, certainly in England.”
Prediction – Dubois win
Austin Williams (Matchroom) vs Hamzah Sheeraz (Queensberry) – Middleweight
Carl Froch: “Sheeraz is a good fighter. He’s talented and maybe one of the best prospects coming through. He’s a British commonwealth champion and look at how easily he’s dominated at that level. When I won the British title and then cleaned up the British level I knew I was ready to step up. I think Hamzah Sheeraz has that kind of pedigree. I’m not comparing him to myself, but in his own right, with that skillset and that punching power. He’s a bright prospect and I’m looking forward to seeing how his career moves on.”
Prediction – Sheeraz win
